Potty training

Potty training puppies can sometimes seem over whelming but if done correctly can lead to enjoyment for you and your puppy. First and foremost your puppy wants to please you, they have excitement in their eyes every moment they are with you. So remember that before you get frustrated with them if they have an accident.

The first thing you want to do is create a potty training schedule, by doing this your pibble will catch on extremely fast and adapt to when they need to use the restroom. Secondly you will need to incorporate a crate, this is going to be your main way of managing your Pitbull’s potty time and to isolate any accidents that may occur while you’re away.

Jumping

Puppies and dogs will naturally want to jump on you and other people when they are spoken to or shown attention. The main reason for this is because we are out of their reach they actually want to be close to you, if you notice they do not jump on top of other dogs. Why? Because other dogs are on their level. They jump because they are trying to greet us so it’s only natural for dogs to jump up on us to reach our face.

How to solve the jumping problem

When your dog comes to greet you only show them attention if they remain on all fours, if they leave this position immediately stop all actions until they remain on all fours.  By doing this your dog will learn that the only way to receive attention from you is if they remain standing on the ground.

Barking

Some dogs bark because they are scared or because they are unfamiliar with something they see, in many cases a good way to stop the barking is to show the dog what they are unfamiliar with or scared of. This will re-insure them that there is nothing to be afraid of and the barking will subside. Remember that the first few times you expose them to the “object “that’s causing the barking will not always calm them. This process could take a few tries but over time they will realize that there is nothing to bark over.

You should praise your dog when you approach the “ Object “ without barking this will help train your dog if they remain calm and quite they will get treats and that the “ Object “ is of no harm to them. Eventually you can stop giving them treats. But it’s always nice to reward your Pup for a job well done in any fashion.

The last thing you ever want to do is use negative methods to try and get your dog to stop barking. The only thing you will accomplish with this method is your dog being afraid of you.

Dog aggression

The main reason for dog aggression is because your dog is not stimulated what I mean by this is the fact that they have way to much energy. Your main focus is to get your dog to a point to where their energy is low and they are in a relaxed state. Then you can introduce them to other dogs, while they are in this state their mind is not racing and they are not feeling much or any type of anxiety therefore they will not have the urge to try and lash out because they don’t know what to do. To get rid of access energy simply pick an active activity to do with your dog to relive the anxiety before introducing them to a new dog.

Pulling

Pulling can become a huge issue once your puppy is fully grown, you don’t want to have a 50-90 pound power house tugging away at you. But not to fear this mild issue can be dealt with early in life, you will need to stay persistent to insure your puppy knows pulling is not allowed. Remember prevention is better than trying to break a bad habit down the road.

Chewing

The thing about Pit Bulls that everyone seems to neglect to think about is chewing, these pups love to chew on things. Even worse all puppies go through a chewing stage but pits keep their chewing habit throughout their life. This is a total natural behavior of the breed, at times this could cost you a lot of money if you do not teach your pup what is allowed and not allowed to be chewed. The best strategy to avoid this issue is to give them a hand full of chew toys. Play with them with these chew toys that way they well understand this is something that they are allowed to chew on.
